Why I Became A Coach and Mentor
Following a number of years working as Creative Arts Therapist I began working in therapeutic residential care and then managing a residential home. Whilst still engaged in private therapy and creativity. I experienced a redundancy and decided to take a complete change of direction, which found me working within the leisure and tourism industry. A much needed diversion, this offered me a unique opportunity to look at my life and see what I wanted to do. I had long held the belief that I wasn't doing a very good job if my therapeutic clients were staying with me for years upon end. I acknowledged that for some the trauma experienced would take time. A question was always within me 'what then?' Once a client had peeled back the layers and got to a place where they could engage in a positive way with their lives, what then?
This led me to study life coaching, a lot of learning from various psychological practitioners is the basis for coaching so the transition wasn't as big as anticipated. I also availed of a life coach, so understood its benefits. I now had the necessary learning to aid my clients in not only healing their past hurts and traumas but to go forward to create a future on their own terms, Not defined by their history.
Some clients find it useful to then utilise my mentoring service. Tapping in when they want someone to support them as they unveil and sort out issues that may arise, or to be held accountable to their own goals.
